Fence 03:31
I ain’t nothin’ you’ve ever seen Not the new King or the next James Dean Try as you may You’ll never put a Fence around me Outside chance at an inside straight? Babe I never hesitate Try as you will You’ll never put a Fence around me Hey whatcha doin’? You can’t save me from myself Dangerously close to ruin Is the way I move And you’ll never put a Fence around me Knew this girl she was half past crazy They come take her away see I know they never put a Fence around her Darlin’ I look into your eyes I can see your soul’s the same as mine Don’t you ever let them put a Fence around you Cuz Babe they’ll sock it to ya Or maybe you’ll just coast on through Amen and Hallelujah Choose your own path and don’t let ‘em put a Fence around you Cuz the floor dropped out and the roof caved in It’s no wonder I’m in the shape I’m in Life’s a very short walk down a very long road I gotta strong back but it’s a heavy load When everything they said that you’d go through is Completely different and completely true You learn it’s really just a matter of finding the truth for you Hey where ya headed? Why you got to leave so soon? OK alright I get it Well you take care And don’t let ‘em put a Fence around you They never put a Fence around me Don’t let ‘em put a Fence around you

Such good love still it reached its end The smoothest cut leaves a jagged rend Some hearts break and some just bend Over don’t mean it’s through Learned it late but I learned in time Sour grapes make for a bitter wine You got yours but you still want mine Well maybe I’m just like you Cuz we were fool enough to say we could simply walk away But being all alone don’t mean you’re free If they ask me well it’s true; I’m still in love with you Oh the taste that lingers from defeat Is the Honeyed and the Bittersweet Heart forgives what the head forsakes Still repeating all the same mistakes One heart gives and one just takes Ain’t it time we faced the truth? We got stuck on yesterday and lost ourselves along the way But there’s a difference between surrender and retreat If you ask me well it’s true; I’m still in love with you Sad the place regret and forgiveness meet Between the Honeyed and the Bittersweet Maybe love needs a more patient hand Maybe time leaves a rosy hue Maybe if the stars aligned A different place, a different time There’d be more to tell ‘bout me and you Maybe what we’ve learned Is that the story twists and turns Baby yours and mine feels incomplete Cuz it’s pretty plain to see, you’re still in love with me Maybe there's a place that we can meet Between the Honeyed and the Bittersweet…Between the Honeyed and the Bittersweet

Lord knows life’s a long road and you can’t go in revoize It’s high time you walked a straight line cuz you just might find you don’t get a choize But you’re never one to heed a word to the wise Confronted with the truth you proffer the lies Oh no, well then there you go Layin’ it all down on a sucker bet It’s hard not to believe you got nothin’ up your sleeve When you’re runnin’ through the rain without gettin’ wet I can’t say if your fate’s shaped by how youze raised or how you born But some day when your luck fades don’t you say you ain’t been warned A wise man knows that he reaps just what he’s sown Even a fool knows to leave well enough alone But not you, that’s not what ya do You push and pull and work on every nerve Don’t say it’s a shame cuz you got no one else to blame When in the end you get just what you deserve Whoa no it’s long past time you go You can’t see that you’re welcome is wearin’ thin Your Rapscallion’s Rhapsody, out of time and way off key Your bullshit symphony caused the mess we’re in And now that it’s all come crashin down Where you gonna run? Where you gonna hide? Your Rapscallion’s Rhapsody has sealed your destiny And now you’ll pay for all the time that you lied And we’re gonna see that justice won’t be denied And we ain’t gonna stop until we’re satisfied

Sooner or later you get movin’ Sooner or later you get stuck Sooner or later you take the gamble Sooner or later you’re out of luck Met a man so consumed with sadness it bordered close to madness Cuz fortune came but he was too afraid There he is among the walking wounded, if he never learned he soon did Sooner or later it’s too late Sooner or later you let love in Sooner or later you’re on the brink Sooner or later you learn that it can leave you Sooner or later than you think Knew a girl, she had the perfect lover but she preferred another So wicked girl, she practiced to deceive Such a fool - she wanders lost and lonely cuz she lost her one and only Sooner or later love will leave Rise above, time that you wise up There ain’t no time to hesitate Seize the day, there ain’t no other way Sooner or later it’s too late Sooner or later you learn the lesson Sooner or later you face the truth Sooner or later you have to look in the mirror Sooner or later it’s up to you Rise above, time that you wise up There ain’t no time to hesitate Seize the day, there ain’t no other way Sooner or later it’s too late Sooner or later it’s too late Sooner or later it’s too late

Well I don't know why I came here tonight, I got the feeling that something ain't right, I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair, And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs, Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am, Stuck in the middle with you Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you, And I'm wondering what it is I should do, It's so hard to keep this smile from my face, Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place, Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, Here I am, stuck in the middle with you Well you started out with nothing, And you're proud that you're a self made man, And your friends, they all come crawlin, Slap you on the back and say, Please, please Trying to make some sense of it all, But I can see that it makes no sense at all, Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor, 'Cause I don't think that I can take anymore Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, Here I am, stuck in the middle with you Well you started out with nothing, And you're proud that you're a self made man, And your friends, they all come crawlin, Slap you on the back and say, Please, please Well I don't know why I came here tonight, I got the feeling that something ain't right, I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair, And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs, Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am, Stuck in the middle with you, Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you, Stuck in the middle with you, here I am stuck in the middle with you

Consolation 05:23
When you drank up all the poison Did you wait for him to die? Honey all of that resentment Is just a waste of time… I’m not the one who hurt you Girl every heart breaks But I just can’t stay here payin’ For someone else’s mistakes I know he left you reelin’ I know you’ve got your pride And a promise without feelin’ Is just another way of lyin’ If you’re looking for some Consolation I can give you some Consolation But I won’t be your Consolation Prize Now it’s laid out there before you Even a blind man could see You’re so focused on the old hurt You can’t see that you’re losin’ me I know you couldn’t claim him That must’ve hurt your pride But I really couldn’t blame him Now that I’ve seen the other side If you’re looking for some Consolation I can offer you some Consolation But I won’t be your Consolation Prize Forgive me for sayin’ cuz this might just strike a nerve I may be half of what you wanted but I’m twice what you deserve So I suppose it’s little Consolation To offer you this revelation That I’ll never be your Consolation Prize

So you stumbled and you fell and blamed it on me Well I guess you might as well I mean who’d believe? Always knew you had it in ya Never could get past your pride It’s been that way since I met ya and I bet ya never tried But I was always on your side So now you’re back on top; all hail the queen The applause it never stops, honey that’s your scene What’d ya tell them all about me? Pretty obvious you lied Not the first time you broke my trust and I just let it slide Cuz I was always on your side Didn’t I give you what you needed? You always were up for a fight All my warnings went unheeded I was defeated and denied But I was always on your side When there’s no more happy endings When there’s nowhere left to hide Maybe then you’ll remember your defender and how he tried Cuz I was always on your side

about

The debut album for Pacific Standard features 6 original tracks of immediately accessible Americana music that bridge the sweet harmonies of Laurel Canyon with the deft musicianship exemplified in the jam band movement. From the radio friendly “Sooner or Later” to the sweet, swaying groove of “Consolation”, The Honeyed & the Bittersweet, Volume I evokes an era of afternoons spent listening to records and learning all the words to your favorite songs.

Pacific Standard’s “Modern Vintage” sound highlights the considerable talents of this Northern California quintet who count The Band, Eagles, and The Grateful Dead among their heroes. Those influences are present throughout the album; the chorus of “Fence” echoes the staggered vocal lines of The Band’s “The Weight”, while Eagles harmonies permeate the title track and the closer, “Always on Your Side”. The bouncy “Rapscallion’s Rhapsody” conjures up the grooviest of Dead jams and their take on classic “Stuck in the Middle” serves as both an homage to the past and a glimpse of the future for this promising Alt-Country Americana group from San Francisco.
